Tactical MMO shooter for PC

Ready or Not is a premium action game for PC from developer VOID Interactive. In this tactical first-person shooter, players are part of an elite police force tasked with defusing hostile situations caused by criminal perpetrators, which also includes safeguarding the lives of any hostage involved.

Similar to Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege or Counter-Strike 2, Ready or Not's gameplay revolves around objective-based missions that players need to accomplish. Players will need to cooperate and execute tactics swiftly. They are backed by an arsenal of weapons and gear to help increase their chances of succeeding.

Special police unit

Ready or Not takes place in the fictional city of Los Suenos and its local law enforcement department, the Los Suenos Police Department or LSPD. To address the big surge in crime in the city, a special unit called Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) was created to deal with the threats and hostile situations as they emerge. You are part of this distinct group of individuals.

In the game's single-player experience called Commander Mode, you're a team leader with four AI soldiers who will follow your command. From your police station hub, you can check equipment boxes to configure your loadout and visit the firing range to test out your weapons. There's even a small training facility to help you practice before taking on the 18 missions available.

Procedurally generated levels mean enemies and objectives constantly change with each run. The game also features multiplayer co-op gameplay and is the ideal way to experience it. All that said, this game is not without flaw, and the one you'll notice immediately is the steep difficulty curve. That is compounded by the rather clunky and erratic AI behavior in Commander Mode.

Punishing and unpredictable

To conclude, Ready or Not is an intriguing tactical shooter with solid combat and challenging missions you can take on solo or with friends — better with the latter. However, there's no denying the high difficulty curve and bad AI will put off some players. Two planned DLCs and a bunch of fixes incoming do hint at better things to come if you're looking to jump in for the ride.

PROS

  • Engaging and tactical missions
